Numero Group pays tribute to the late, great, inimitable Unwound with a four box set series, consisting of expanded editions of all of the band’s albums. Pretty much essential listening material for the rest of this year and beyond. The first volume, Kid is Gone, comes out 9/6. Check out the album trailer below.
Next fall, Numero Group will begin reissuing the entire, amazing catalogue of Unwound, whose seven albums remain beacons of 1990s post-punk. In addition, the label will release the pre-Unwound Giant Henry album, which you can sample below.
Just listen, one of the greatest bands of the past 20 years, nuff said.
Wow, I’m very excited to be writing about Unwound once again, one of my very favorite bands. It’s been a long time since last we heard from the trio, but there’s some news afoot. First up, the band will be releasing a live double LP on 12/11 called Live Leaves – featuring live performances of tracks fromLeaves Turn Inside You played during the band’s final 2001 tour. Listen to a selection here. Second, go visit the Unwound Archive for a documentation of the band that the members always meant to do but never got around to. All this isn’t exactly the same as traveling back in time to see Unwound play live, but I’ll take it.
